A drone strike on a US base in Jordan resulted in three US soldiers being killed and twenty-five injured, according to the US military.

The deaths were brought on by a drone strike at a site in northeastern Jordan, close to the Syrian border, according to a statement released by the US Central Command (Centcom).

According to US President Joe Biden, “radical Iran-backed militant groups” were responsible for the attack.

Following the attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7, this is the first time US servicemen have died in the area.

Although there have been attacks on US bases in the area, the US army has not yet recorded any casualties.

According to the White House, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and other authorities briefed Mr. Biden on the incident on Sunday morning.

“While we are still gathering the facts of this attack, we know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq,” Biden said in a statement.

“Be certain that we will hold everyone accountable in a way and at a time of our choosing.

“Jill and I join the families and friends of our fallen – and Americans across the country – in grieving the loss of these warriors in this despicable and wholly unjust attack,” said the statement.

The White House claimed that Mr. Biden was briefed on the attack on Sunday morning.

While authorities attempt to inform their relatives, the names of the servicemen who were killed and injured have not yet been made public.

US military outposts have been located in Jordan, a close ally of the US, for a while. There are thought to be about 3,000 US soldiers stationed there at all times.

Two Navy Seals went missing during an operation off the coast of Somalia earlier this month to retrieve Iranian-made weaponry headed for the Houthis in Yemen. The US Army assumed the men were dead.
